What is pasture-raised meat?

Pasture-raised meat is exactly what it sounds like: animals living on grass. Our birds move out to their mobile coops at three to four weeks old and move at least once a day to fresh pasture. We feed all of our animals a locally-milled non-GMO feed, or graze them in the case of cattle, but their favorite treat is spent grains from a local brewery

Bonus: it’s great for their gut health and reduces food waste!

Mind

Conventional animals are grown in confinement with serious health implications for the animals and you. Even if you buy “pasture-raised” at the grocery store, the US does not regulate how these animals must be raised. Don’t be fooled by marketing buzzwords. When you buy from a local farmer, you can see exactly how healthy, happy, and clean these animals are!

Body

We are what we eat, right? Our animals are never given hormones, antibiotics, vaccines, steroids or heavy metals (yup – conventional poultry is often fed arsenic to increase appetite). Pastured animals tend to have less saturated fat and more iron, Omega-3, and antioxidants compared to conventional poultry. Our animals are as healthy as you can find.

Soil

Conventional meat production can result in toxic ammonia vapor, groundwater contamination from nitrates, etc. Through continuous pasture rotation, we instead improve the health of our soil (increasing carbon sequestration) and eliminate negative impacts on the water system. Our goal is create a system where we work with the animals to best serve the land and our environment.
